Your Instructors

Our instructors are more than teachers—they're full-time Registered Maine Guides who spend their days working in Maine's woods, waters, and sporting camps.

Owners Michael Tuminaro and David Tyrol guide clients year-round and bring real-world experience to every class they teach. You can see them in action through their guiding operation at Maine Upland Guide Service.

Both Mike and Dave have extensive training as professional guides and first responders, and they use that knowledge to ensure your learning experience is informative, engaging, and successful from start to finish. Their hands-on field experience provides students with practical insights that go far beyond the textbook.

Our instructional team is passionate about helping future guides succeed. They are knowledgeable, approachable, and committed to creating a classroom environment that is both professional and enjoyable. After all, learning from people who genuinely love what they do makes the journey to becoming a Registered Maine Guide even more rewarding.

Michael Tuminaro

Michael Tuminaro has been hunting and fishing throughout the United States and Canada for more than 30 years. A Registered Maine Guide licensed for hunting, fishing, and recreational trips, Mike has dedicated his life to pursuing and sharing Maine's outdoor traditions.

An avid upland bird hunter and dog trainer, Mike works extensively with NAVHDA and guides over his German Shorthaired Pointers, Risa and Camden. His passion for bird dogs, conservation, and upland hunting is evident in every hunt he leads.

Beyond guiding, Mike serves as Deputy Director of the Maine Professional Guides Association, Maine's oldest and largest guide organization, representing more than 1,200 Registered Maine Guides. In this role, he works closely with legislators, state agencies, local communities, conservation organizations, and sportsmen's groups to protect and promote Maine's outdoor heritage and guiding traditions.

Mike also serves on the Board of Directors for the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine, helping provide leadership on issues affecting hunting, fishing, conservation, and outdoor recreation at both the state and federal levels.

A respected outdoor writer, Mike's articles and stories have appeared in publications including The Maine Sportsman, The Virginia Sportsman, and several nationally recognized upland hunting magazines.

Committed to providing safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences, Mike holds Wilderness First Aid certification through SOLO Wilderness Medicine and brings a wealth of field experience, professionalism, and enthusiasm to every adventure.

David Tyrol

David Tyrol is a lifelong Mainer who has spent more than three decades hunting and fishing across North America. A Registered Maine Guide licensed for hunting, fishing, and recreational trips, Dave combines extensive outdoor experience with a passion for sharing Maine's sporting traditions with others.

An accomplished upland bird hunter and wing shooter, Dave guides over his two American Brittanys, Islay and Finley. Known for their drive, style, and bird-finding ability, his dogs are an integral part of the memorable hunting experiences he provides for clients.

Beyond his guiding career, Dave is a highly respected firearms instructor who has spent the past 18 years training many of Maine's first responders. His commitment to safety, professionalism, and education is evident both in the classroom and in the field.

Dave is also an accomplished fly tyer and avid angler who enjoys sharing his knowledge of Maine's waters and sporting traditions with guests. After a day afield, he is often found in camp preparing hearty meals and wild game dishes, creating the kind of authentic outdoor experience that keeps guests returning year after year.

Committed to providing safe and enjoyable adventures, Dave holds Wilderness First Aid certification through SOLO Wilderness Medicine and brings a wealth of experience, skill, and hospitality to every trip.
